The Menzies Waterside Hotel Bath Rossiter Road, Widcombe Basin![]() The Menzies Waterside is the perfect place to plan your excursions into the historic city. One of the more popular hotels in Bath when you arrive and see how being off the road and next to a lock on the river Avon looks you will understand why. Good stuff: The location near to the city centre Bad stuff: The room was small, although adequate. The heater had no controls. It was either on or off. When the heater was on the room was far too hot. This was uncomfortable and also wasteful so we turned the heater off. When we asked about reducing the temperature the staff advised us there should be some controls. However, there were none so we turned the heater off. This was better than having it on although neither full on or fully off was really satisfactory. Overall: I liked the location of the hotel. However the room size and heating problem would put me off returning to, or recommending, the hotel. Although we will probably return to Bath we would look for other hotels in similar locations. Good stuff: the lodge we stayed in was really suitable for our weekend break away. Overall: Considering the price of the nights stay at the hotel we would have thought that breakfast was included in our stay. Guests Name: VICTORIA was traveling as Young couple

Good stuff: Location Bad stuff: Creaky floor boards in the corridoors. Overall: Hotel is in a fantastic location and the walk into town along the canal is beautiful. Everything else about the stay was adequate. Nothing special, just fine for a one night stay. Room was clean and tidy although a little on the small side. Good stuff: Clean, smart rooms. Excelent proximity to Bath city centre. Bad stuff: Strange, 'wet dog' smell in the corridor! Very slow check-out due to mass exodus of everyone at 11am on the Sunday with not enough staff on reception. Overall: Not enough car parking - as there was a wedding reception taking place which must be a frequent occurance during the summer months. Generally a good all-round hotel choice for an overnight weekend stay and good value for money for peak season. Guests Name: Adrian was traveling as Same sex couple

Good stuff: The decor was nice and the room clean. Bad stuff: Customer service ranged from poor to non-existant: staff overheard swearing, waiting staff covered in plasters, check in staff not doing what they promised to do, one shift manager clearly not relaying information to the relevant shift manager... The food ranged from bland to unpleasant and despite pre-paying for all meals, we barely ate anything at the hotel. A number of bulbs in the room did not work. Overall: I would not stay at this hotel again and do not know why it counts as a 4 star. The rooms were clean and decor pleasant, but the only thing to distinguish this hotel from a budget Holiday Inn was that some rooms may have a nice view (ours didn't). Customer service was slow and confused and our food was at best bland and occassionally unpleasant. Friends and family have since told us about cheaper hotels in Bath with better service, better food and more character, and I deeply regret not asking their advice before booking. Good stuff: Clean. No frills. Good location. 24hr bar. Bad stuff: Staff were not that helpful. Not great value for money. Overall: The best thing about this hotel was its location. good access too bath. Did not however have the finesse you might expect from 4 star accommodation so was a slight disapointment. Good stuff: Cleanliness and quietness Bad stuff: Room size Overall: Nice hotel in great location, although would have liked a map of directions into the town centre, a short cut along canal was found out later into the stay. Cost of breakfast was expensive on top of the room costs. In the main very enjoyable with a nice atmosphere and generally attentive staff. Guests Name: Anonymous was traveling as Same sex couple

Good stuff: tidy, modern, close to town Bad stuff: air conditioning needed in rooms, our room smelt of smoke, we had asked for a non smoking room, i would suggest you have a no smoking policy in your hotel, but then i would say that cause im a non smoker! Overall: air conditioning or not, often it is assumed rooms have air conditioning by punters, including me, i will be careful to enquire next time. Am i likely to get a non smoking room if i ask for one. More concrete information on whether your room will be a double or a twin. Guests Name: linda was traveling as Family with older children

Good stuff: It was very close to town and the ability to park in the hotel was a great benefit. The room was clean and adequate for an overnight stay. Bad stuff: The restaurant was vastly over priced and of a poor quality for the money. Overall: The position of the hotel was excellant and within 5 minutes walk of the centre of Bath and its attractions. This was the main reason we choose the hotel. Being able to leave the car in the hotel and walk in saving time and money was great. On the downside, for the money I would not choose to eat in their restaurant or drink at the bar. The prices were extremely high and the quality of service and food I felt were generally poor. Overall a fair place to stay. Guests Name: Brendan was traveling as Young couple
