Guests Name: Kenneth was travelling as Group of adult friends
Good stuff: Initially I made a three day reservation via the Internet but had to change that to a 1 night stay. While the telephone service to make the amendment was efficient (I made this change around 5 days before arrival) however, as I was booking from overseas, an option to amend the dates of stay on-line would have been welcome.
The hotel and rooms comfortable and in quite good condition (with the exception noted below) for the age of the building. Staff were friendly. Good breakfast provided.
Bad stuff: The room I occupied (iirc it was room 37)had obviously recently been forcibly entered. The lock had been recently replaced and there were still signs on the door jamb of the lock being forced, as well as indications that an attempt had been made to break the panels in the door too as the paint over job was hardly adequate to hide the damage. I have photographs if required. The door chain inside had not been properly refitted.
While this was only really a superficial issue, it did give cause for wonder at what might have been the reason; somebody dieing in the room perhaps? To me this was no problem as I've stayed in hundreds of hotels around the World and realise this must happen from time to time, however to some guests this could be a cause for concern and anguish.
One point of the room that detracted from its appearance however was the desk. In the other two rooms I had booked, the desk was a stand alone wooden desk in keeping with the furnishings of the room. In my room it was a simple (badly) painted piece of 1" thick wood fitted into an alcove, with a partial shelf area below. This looked cheap in comparison to the rest of the room and was noticeably out of place.
Overall: Generally happy overall and would stay again as well as recommend to a friend.
